As I shopped with my family in our favorite grocery store, I couldn’t help but overhear a nearby conversation between two women. One made the comment that the “industry is not what it used to be” to which the other woman replied, “nothing is as it used to be.” I don’t think I’ve heard a truer statement than that. I didn’t stick around to hear much more of their conversation. With three young sons, the collective attention span was about 42 seconds and rapidly declined standing by the frozen veggies.
As we continued our journey through the store, I couldn’t help but think about the #dental industry. Since I spend much of my time in various dental offices, I began to think of my industry friends and how today’s market is impacting them. This past April, the ADA put out an article expressing that “Dental office employment declined”. As we’ve seen in many industries, and as the ladies in the supermarket spoke about, many people used the pandemic as a good time to retire. Others used the lockdown to figure out what they “really” want to do with their lives. This seemed to be the case for many dental personnel.
So, what's led to this mass exodus?
Well, according to this article from DentalPost, the reasons range from flexibility of schedule (or lack thereof flexibility) to the squeeze that the pandemic has placed on personal #finances. This was felt even outside of the dental world. Although patient numbers have steadily climbed, the post highlights the stagnating office employment numbers. This is a formula for feeling overworked, and don't get me started on work-life balance.
How can MedDent Services help?
MedDent Services helps by giving dental office personnel their time back. From machine and facility cleanings to efficient #repair and #maintenance schedules, helping offices to focus on patients is our priority. As dentists and office staff focus on the customer experience, we focus on the building and equipment. Although I don’t personally believe time is money, I do understand the importance of utilizing your time in the most efficient manner possible. You pay your office staff to prioritize your clients, not become the end of day site maintenance crew…that’s our job.
